Most people have no idea what's actually available to them.

When balcony solar laws started passing across the US in 2025 and 2026, most coverage was generic, most tools were outdated, and most people who wanted to know “can I do this?” were getting answers that didn't account for their specific state, their specific utility, or their specific building type.

Sol Country was built to fix that. One address. Real data. Every option. Free.

Why you can trust Sol Country's information

We correct ourselves when things change. We say “not yet” when something hasn't happened. We tell you what doesn't apply to you, not just what does.

Primary sources only

Every law, program status, and incentive amount on Sol Country is sourced to the official state energy office, utility website, or legislative database — not aggregated from other sites.

25C solar tax credit expiry

In 2026 several energy sites continue to show the 30% federal solar tax credit as available for new installations. It expired December 31, 2025. Sol Country updated every affected page the day the law passed and will not show this credit as available for 2026 installations.

Status is a first-class field

We track whether programs are active, waitlisted, launching, or closed. We don't show programs as 'available' when they've exhausted their funding.

Honest about what doesn't apply

If a program doesn't apply to your state, your housing type, or your income level, Sol Country says so clearly rather than showing you options that sound good but don't actually work for you.

Affiliate relationships are disclosed

Sol Country earns commissions on some products and services. Every affiliate relationship is disclosed on the relevant page. Our editorial recommendations are not for sale — we recommend CraftStrom because it's UL 3700 certified, not because we earn more from it than other options.

Sol Country's balcony solar legislation data has been independently verified against Canary Media's tracker (last updated July 2, 2026) and pv-magazine USA's legislative coverage. Our state counts and status information match these primary press sources.

What powers Sol Country

Sol Country pulls from 14 live data sources to generate personalized recommendations:

NLR (National Laboratory of the Rockies) — solar potential by address
EIA — utility rates by utility territory
Census ACS — area median income by county for HEAR eligibility
DSIRE — state incentive programs
RentCast — property data by address
WattTime — real-time grid data
State energy office databases — manually verified monthly
Primary bill text — reviewed for every signed state

Sol Country's legislation tracker is updated the same day any state signs, advances, or stalls. Program status (open, waitlisted, closed) is reviewed at least monthly for active programs and within 48 hours for programs approaching exhaustion.

Sol Country maintains the most current database of balcony solar legislation across all 50 states, HEAR/HOMES program status in Sol Country's priority markets, and verified outcome data from users who have installed and reported back.
