This page is maintained by Sol Country LLC to explain how we source data, how often we review articles, how we disclose affiliate relationships, and how to reach us about corrections. Sol Country covers money, energy bills, and legal rights — we take accuracy seriously.
How we source data
Sol Country is built on public, primary-source data. Our platform integrates 14 live data sources including:
- DSIRE — Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency, maintained by the NC Clean Energy Technology Center under U.S. Department of Energy funding
- NLR PVWatts — Solar production modeling from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
- U.S. Energy Information Administration — Retail electricity rates and state consumption data
- WattTime — Marginal grid carbon-intensity signals
- U.S. Census ACS — American Community Survey demographic and housing data
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics — Consumer Price Index energy series
- OpenStates — Real-time state legislation tracking
Where possible we link directly to the underlying statute, agency page, or dataset so you can verify our numbers. Every learn article ends with a Sources block that lists the primary references used.
How often we review
Legislation, incentives, and utility rates change quickly. Each learn article carries a "Last reviewed" date in its byline. Rate and incentive data feeding the Find My Power quiz, the marketplace, and state pages is refreshed on rolling schedules through our data-freshness system — the tracker page shows a live verification chip so you can see when our legislation data was last verified against source.
Articles covering active legislation (balcony solar bills, IRA rebate program status, utility rate cases) are reviewed at least quarterly, and immediately when a status change is confirmed by a primary source.
Affiliate disclosure
Sol Country earns commissions when readers purchase products or subscribe to services through some of the links on this site. Commissions range from about $10 per community solar subscription to a few hundred dollars per home solar or battery installation.
Our commitments:
- We never accept payment to feature a product.
- We never adjust our savings calculations or payback estimates to favor higher-commission products.
- Our ranking engine sorts by payback period, savings, and legal availability at your address — not by commission rate.
- Any product link that pays us a commission is marked as an affiliate link on the page where it appears.

Corrections & contact
If you find an error — a wrong rate, an outdated statute, a broken source link, or a claim that needs more nuance — email us and we will investigate. Confirmed errors are corrected with a dated correction note appended to the article.
