What UL 3700 means and why it matters.

On January 7, 2026, UL Solutions launched UL 3700 — the first dedicated safety certification standard for plug-in solar systems in the United States. Every state that has legalized balcony solar requires or references UL 3700 or an equivalent safety standard.

Sol Country only lists products that have achieved or are actively pursuing UL 3700 certification. We do not list uncertified products as suitable for plug-in installation in US homes.

What UL 3700 certifies

Touch safety
Verifies the system is safe to handle — no live exposed parts.
Breaker masking
Ensures the panel doesn't prevent your breaker from tripping during an overload.
GFCI compatibility
Works correctly with ground-fault circuit interrupter outlets required in wet areas.
Backfeed safety
Prevents electricity from feeding back to the utility grid in a way that could endanger line workers.

Portable power stations don't need UL 3700

Portable power stations (EcoFlow DELTA, Jackery Explorer, Bluetti) do not plug into your home's electrical system — they store power in a battery and power devices directly through their own outlets.

These products are covered by different safety standards (UL 1973 for battery safety, UL 62368 for electronics) and are legal in all 50 states without any legislation or certification for plug-in use.

Sol Country's portable power products meet all applicable standards for their category.

Our certification policy

  1. We only list plug-in solar products that have achieved or are actively pursuing UL 3700 certification.
  2. We show certification status transparently — including "in progress" — so you can make an informed decision.
  3. We update this page when certification status changes. Last reviewed: January 1, 1970
